Sell my Car for Cash: Three Surprising Junkyard Finds

A Lubbock, Texas, car buyer that operates as a professionally operated junkyard buys a variety of cars to sell parts from. Some of these junkyards also buy cars that still drive, and sell them as modes of transportation. Because junkyards acquire vehicles for different reasons, you may encounter some surprising finds, as you shop for parts or a used vehicle.

Below are three surprising finds that junkyard customers have made, as they combed through the vehicle inventory of a junkyard.

1. Used Police Cars With Low Mileage

You’ll find many cars in junkyard that have well over 100,000 miles on the odometer. But there’s one kind of car that typically doesn’t: a used police cruiser.

Police departments retire cruisers earlier than their lifespan would predict for two reasons: They want cruisers that are in the prime of their life, and they often receive annual funding that allows them to buy new equipment. Spending the funding is essential, as it creates a strong chance that the they’ll receive the same level of funding for the year to come.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive used vehicle that you can drive for awhile, a used police car which has been stripped of most of the features that identify it as a police cruiser may be a good option.

2. Vehicles That Were Stolen to Sell

Ethical junkyards don’t buy junk vehicles or used vehicles that are stolen, because they require proof of ownership to complete the sale. However, unscrupulous junkyards have been known to buy any vehicle that an independent tow truck brings to their location.

The tow truck drivers themselves are unethical, often picking up what appear to be junk cars on the street, without consulting the vehicle’s owners. If you do business with a junkyard that doesn’t require proof of ownership for the sale, you may end up pulling parts from a vehicle or driving a used automobile that is stolen and, therefore, illegal to drive.

3. Vehicles With Value as Classics

Every once in awhile, a junk car that is considered a “classic” ends up in a junkyard. If you find such a junk car, it may be to your advantage to buy the vehicle in full. After restoring the automobile, you may have the opportunity  to “sell my car for cash” for thousands of dollars more than the junkyard paid for it.

You may also get lucky enough find a classic car that you own and needs parts for. Getting the parts from a junkyard costs less than ordering then from an auto supply company.
